Beginning with her last album, Land of Waves, composer Bérangère Maximin continues her research, drawing inspiration from recordings she has made in parks, abandoned properties and the suburbs of cities she has crossed on her travels through Europe - partial traces of human activity that she transcribes from memory.
"Bérangère Maximin makes finely disturbing, instinctive electronic music. An exceptional sound sculptor, she began in an academic environment with electroacoustic training and gradually integrated the contribution of post-punk, dub and sound arts into a hyper-personal style, a sensual and hypnotic production with immediate impact." - crammed.be
Bérangère Maximin
composer, performer
Operating from her own studio since 2008, Bérangère Maximin has developed her own approach to sound art and electroacoustic music, composing dense, immersive pieces with immediate impact. In six albums that have attracted international interest, she has revealed a taste for mixing heterogeneous sounds with a sense of detail, nuanced and dynamic sound writing with digital material. Bérangère Maximin's music engages the listener in considering spaces and textures, with the ambivalence of medium-fixed sounds and their total independence from their sources at the heart of her work. In 2021, Bérangère Maximin is one of six composers nominated to compete for the Grand Prix Lycéen des Compositeurs with the piece Off The Page from her new album Land of Waves, released in June 2020 on Karlrecords (Berlin). Her previous albums have been released on Tzadik / Composer Series (USA), Sub Rosa / Framework (BE) and Crammed Discs / Made To Measure (BE). She also responds to producer Craig Leon's invitation and contributes to the reactivation of his Atlas Realisations(GB) label with a fifth electroacoustic opus entitled Frozen Refrains released on vinyl in June 2017. Bérangère Maximin performs in venues such as London's Hayward Gallery, Roulette in New York, the FIMAV festival in Victoriaville, Quebec, the Présences Electronique festival, the crypt of Notre-Dame-de-Paris Cathedral and the Palais de Tokyo, the Musées d'Art Contemporain in Bordeaux and Strasbourg in France, Teatro Della Pergola in Florence, Angelica Festival in Bologna, Dampfzentrale in Bern, Ausland and Charlottenburg Baptist Church in Berlin, Push Festival in Sweden, Cafe Oto in London, among many other concert, festival and club seasons across Europe and North America. Since 2010, she has also received commissions and residencies at Ina-GRM (2010, 2011, 2012, 2021), studio éOle in Toulouse (FR, 2021), Labo Flashback in Perpignan (FR, 2020), EMS in Stockholm (2014), La Muse En Circuit (2014), Grim-Montévidéo (2010), Institut IMEB (France) and was a laureate of the "Villa Médicis Hors Les Murs" program in New York (Cultures France, 2011).
