Creative residency.
Residency awarded as part of the Phonurgia Nova Awards.
Vent violent is a multi-channel, immersive and generative sound installation that projects us into the Mediterranean space, through the encounter of two so-called "violent" winds: the chergui in northern Morocco and the mistral in Provence.
This creation is a sonic reading of the sensitive, physical and mental relationship we have with these immaterial, wild wind figures, through listening to the soundscapes of their environments, the voices of the inhabitants of their geographies, and the traditional songs and music specific to their territories. Vent violent explores the underlying links between wind and mental health - or how these movements of air challenge our bodies and minds - through a demanding work of fieldrecording on two territories in dialogue, listening to the languages, breaths and music that run through them.

Chloé Despax
Radio author, composer and sound artist
Based in Marseille, Chloé Despax has been exploring the various possibilities offered by sound for the past twelve years: documentary, fiction, fieldrecording, sound poetry, performance and installation.
Radio and sound are the mediums used to experiment with her desire to create relational spaces, nourished by the setting up of filming devices, by the multiplied creative power of the collective, by performative and participative play, and by the central place of music and the musicality of language in her research.
