A creative residency and recording session, followed by a concert featuring new works by composers from the University of California, Berkeley.
Following several residencies at American institutions in recent years, as well as a performance by lovemusic at GMEM as part of the Modulations season, the Strasbourg-based collective is launching a new artistic creation project in collaboration with four students from the University of California, Berkeley, in partnership with GMEM.
In a political climate marked by numerous tensions, it seems essential to continue fostering spaces for dialogue and creativity among artists on both sides of the Atlantic. This project thus underscores the strength and necessity of Franco-American collaborations by promoting concrete and lasting artistic exchanges.
Through a series of rehearsals, workshops, recording sessions, and a concert, this project offers students an immersive experience, allowing them to develop and present their new works in France, in close collaboration with the musicians of lovemusic. This collaborative creative process aims to encourage experimentation, knowledge-sharing, and the emergence of new voices.

Lovemusic Collective
Lovemusic is a Strasbourg-based collective of musicians specializing in new music. Its work focuses on new compositions designed to enrich the contemporary music scene. The collective fosters close collaborations among artists committed to a process of co-creation. Lovemusic is committed to transforming the patriarchal and hierarchical structures historically entrenched in the music world. The collective fosters a safe and inclusive work environment. Everyone is encouraged to contribute ideas, both in the design of programs and in the selection of collaborators. Lovemusic members are distinguished by the diversity of their backgrounds and aesthetic sensibilities. Committed to more equitable representation, the collective pays particular attention to issues of ethnic background, gender, and sexual identity in the development of its programs.
The performative dimension plays an essential role in their approach. The absence of a conductor fosters close interaction among the performers and establishes a direct and dynamic relationship with the audience. The collective regularly incorporates lighting, video, and stage design to create immersive listening experiences. lovemusic’s concerts are thus characterized by their vitality, inventiveness, and ability to draw the audience into a diverse musical universe. lovemusic strives for a balance between individuality and collective spirit, combined with the bold exploration of new and unconventional ideas.
Winner of the 2025 Ernst von Siemens Ensemble Prize, the collective has performed at festivals and venues such as the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, CHIMEfest (Chicago), Gaudeamus (Utrecht), Festival DME (Lisbon), Musica Festival (Strasbourg), Sound Festival (Aberdeen), Music Current (Dublin), Klangwerkstatt (Berlin), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Festival Niente Forte (New Orleans), Donaueschinger Musiktage, Arsenal (Metz), Constellation (Chicago), Lieu Unique (Nantes), Rainy Days (Luxembourg), La semaine du neuf (Montreal), Wien Modern, and Festival d’Automne in Paris.
