New Orleans bassist and composer Stoo Odom inhabits the murky world where psychedelia, jazz and noise intersect.
Best known for his psychedelic rock production on The Graves Brothers Deluxe, Thin White Rope, and Subarachnoid Space, Stoo Odom has also collaborated on tour and in the studio with members of Acid Mother Temple, The Boredoms, and Sixties icons The Monks.
Stoo Odom's music can also be heard in various films and independent TV productions.
His first orchestral composition was performed in 2014 by the San Francisco Sinfonietta.
During this residency, Stoo Odom will work with musicians from the local Marseilles scene, including Vincent Sermonne on drums (Molodoï, Fin de Siècle, Générik Vapeur), Paul Milhaud on guitar (The Holy Curse, Keith Richard's Overdose), and James McClellan on other guitar (Elektrolux, Shiloh). The result of this collaboration will be presented in two concerts: on October 5 at Machine à Coudre, and on October 6 at Casa Consolat, as part of the POC (Portes Ouvertes Consolat) festival. The performance will be semi-improvised, taking the form of a contrast between Stoo's acoustic double bass and more incisive electric instruments.
