The aim of this seminar is to analyze the general concepts of the film & music relationship.
This relationship gives particular importance to musical and sound composition for experimental films.

The pedagogical approach will be based on an analysis of the compositional tools used, focusing on various schools and approaches to experimental cinema, such as the Austrian school, “found footage,” structural and materialist cinema, hybrid cinema, expanded cinema, and physicality, among others. These tools will be studied along three main lines of inquiry:
— the technological dimension of musical and sound composition for experimental cinema;
— the extra-musical analysis of the themes addressed in the films;
— an aesthetic and textural study of the film’s visual elements.

Structure of the Seminar
The seminar will be structured around two types of sessions:
The first two sessions (each lasting 120 minutes) will aim to introduce the various types and movements in experimental cinema and to analyze the use of music and sound in these films.
The subsequent sessions (each lasting 180 minutes) will be hands-on workshops designed to guide participants through the electroacoustic composition of several experimental short films, which will then be presented during a final screening.

This seminar is open to all Platform partners.
Its content is tailored to the needs of students from the various institutions.
(The duration of practical sessions may depend on the number of registered participants).
