Polyomino is a multiphonic sound installation on eight channels, designed for two disjointed amplified spaces. The listener is invited to circulate through different listening points.
This work has its origins in a geometric figure called polyomino, a polyform set of small squares glued together according to assembly rules. They allow the rapid modeling of a wide variety of problems and combinations. In the duo's musical and compositional approach, the polyominoes take the form of modules made up of different elements. An element is a sound fragment with multiple semantic attributes. Their association is the result of combinatorial research based on different writing methods of the order of chance - algorithms, or intentional - gesture ... How to achieve assemblies satisfying different constraints? What are the possibilities? When to consider that modules are identical or different, communicate or answer each other?
This composition, driven by a programmed combinatorial system, questions the relationship between the composer and the listener. It invites an intimate relationship to perception, to listening, and proposes a sensitive and singular experience.
