Sound and visual research residency; composition tracks.
Micro-machines is a mechanical sound and music installation in the continuation of a series of machines begun with the previous pieces (machines à rien, machines désirantes). The idea is to seek out micro-movements, microscopic excitements, in a spirit of hijacking everyday objects, on reduced-format objects, zooming in on highly agitated miniature mechanical machines.
The installation would take the form of a single support centered on a small space around which the public could rotate. The various mechanics would be intertwined and superimposed, like a surrealist model, complemented by a luminous work composed of small sources.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, the work will evoke a fascination with movement, the organic variations generated by repetitive, programmed motion, and the absurd, poetic misappropriation of everyday objects, creating an abstract, lyrical visual and sonic landscape into which the spectator can immerse himself or herself.

Valentin Durif
Sound artist
Musician, sound artist and hobbyist with a background in electronic music, Valentin Durif lives and works in Lyon, France. He became interested in transposing electronic music into the physical world, creating installations and performances composed of sound machines and home-made instruments. He usually works with everyday objects, with the idea of creating sound and visual landscapes that are both immersive and impressionistic, while developing the idea of a musical gesture that is both Dadaist and coherent, addressing questions of fragility and control. His music blends electronica with a more noisy, experimental approach to sound creation, with a focus on improvisation.
