Research residency (sound spatialization, etc.)
Laughing Tonalities is a cycle of electroacoustic pieces based essentially on the sound material of laughter. They draw on the recordings of almost three hundred people specially solicited for this project - the laughter recorded is natural, authentic, not the laughter of actors.
The musical writing is centered on the timbres, rhythms and intonations of this material: Les Levantines exploit the arpeggios and arabesques of laughter, Les Favorites present the great laughter "of a cantatrice", full-throated, Les Inspirés focus on the laughter "of a seal", Les Champions play with the vowels of laughter, Les Doux & Piquants are closed-mouthed, La Grenouille de Lycie presents a laugh... "unusual", and so on.
Musical writing also takes on the eminently suggestive dimension of laughter: it is possible to imagine a situation, a scene, a portrait... Titles can be used to introduce different levels of interpretation.
The collection of short, contrasting pieces (fourteen to date) forms a portrait gallery, a bouquet of scenes, a cantata.
