As part of the Grand Vertige
Organized by the Grand8 collective, based in the South of France, the Grand Vertige festival is based on the encounter of two large ensembles of musicians practicing free improvisation.
For this second edition, which takes place from October 7 to 10, 2021 in Marseille, Grand8 invites the Dreieck Interférences Ensemble, from the Grand Est region, as well as dancers from the South of France, who have been Grand8 companions for several years.
In residence at the GMEM from October 6 to 8, the 24 musicians gathered on the Module stage will venture into the realms of large-scale improvisation, offering a public performance on Friday October 8 at 7pm.

Grand8
improvisation ensemble
Founded in 2016, Grand8 is an ensemble made up of some twenty musicians, mainly from the south-east of France, who practice large-scale improvisation without a conductor.
Listening guides the musicians' approach. It provides a balance between spontaneity and meticulous construction. Grand8 is nourished by encounters with dance, the plastic arts, calligraphy... These cross-fertilizations give rise to regular performances indoors (GMEM, PIC-Télémaque, Déviation, IMMS, Friche Belle de Mai...) and outdoors (parks, gardens and mediatized hikes with the Bureau des Guides du GR2013). Grand8 is in residence at GMEM.
Dreieck Interférences Ensemble
ensemble
Dreieck Interférences Ensemble (DIE) was created in 2019 on the occasion of a project initiated by Stéphane Clor at the Météo festival in Mulhouse. Today, DIE is an orchestra of variable geometry, bringing together musicians from the Grand Est region, whose practices are rooted in contemporary classical music, free improvisation and "alternative" musical cultures. A founding project of the Dreieck Interférences association, DIE's aim is to experiment with musical creation within a large ensemble, practicing forms of collective composition and improvisation.
