Research, creation and recording residency.
Ensemble Bloc return to their fundamentals: a heavy, radical sound rooted in the noise aesthetic, exploring extreme sonic possibilities. This project marks a new stage in their career, where musical audacity meets artistic commitment.
After revisiting the works of Hildegarde von Bingen and Raffaella Aleotti in their previous project Resistere Nox (2023), through the interpretations and recompositions of Rose Dehors (composer and trombonist of the group in a performance combining video, improvisation and theater and played at the Détours de Babel festival), Ensemble Bloc now turns to a contemporary figure: Jiyoung Lee. This young composer embodies a strong, visionary voice in emerging musical creation.
In this new program, Bloc offers not only an interpretation of the work, but also improvisations inspired by it.
Pauline Chiama
Pauline Chiama joined the Paris CRR in 2006. For ten years, she studied with Ariane Maurette and Guido Balestracci. After an Erasmus in Berlin as part of a Master's degree in history, she joined Marianne Muller's class at the CNSMD de Lyon, graduating in June 2021. After her Master's degree as an instrumentalist, Pauline joined the Artist Diploma program at the CNSMD de Lyon, where she created the show Funambules with composer Félix Lacquement. A viola da gamba teacher at the Angers CRR in 2022-2023, she will then join the teaching team at the Grenoble CRR at the start of the 2023 academic year. A versatile artist, she readily puts her musical and stage skills at the service of transdisciplinary projects that take her off the beaten track, working with a variety of ensembles (La Camerata Chromatica, La Sourde, Bloc, Transphonie, Les Fâcheuses, Du Souffle à l'Archet...).
Rose Dehors
Rose Dehors began her trombone and recorder studies at the CRR in Rouen, then went on to study sackbut at the CNSMD in Lyon (Early Music department), before joining the CNSMD in Paris in 2023, specializing in jazz and improvised music. She trained with Daniel Lassalle, Claire McIntyre, Bastien Ballaz and Pierre Baldy. Her practice covers jazz in small and large ensembles (ONJ des Jeunes, David Chevallier, Laurent Dehors, Horde(s), Astéria Collectif...) as well as early music (Compagnie Outre-mesure, Ensemble Jacques Moderne, Les Meslanges, La Fenice). In 2022, she co-founded the contemporary ensemble BLOC. She is also developing her own group, Pliq, around her own compositions, selected for the Détours de Babel workshops in March 2023.
Ayami Inokawa
Ayami Inokawa obtained her saxophone degree at Osaka University with Jun Nishimoto, Miki Hiraga and Masanori Oishi. In 2015, she arrived in France to study at the CRR de Lyon with Jean-Denis Michat, then at the CRR de Versailles with Vincent David and Nicolas Arsenijevic. She then entered the CNSMD de Lyon in chamber music, in the classes of Fabrice Bihan, Franck Krawczyk and Sergio Menozzi. Finalist at the 9th Nova Gorica International Saxophone Competition, she performed with the Ljubljana Symphony Orchestra. Passionate about contemporary creation, she is developing a multidisciplinary approach combining performance, staging and electronic music. She is currently working on a trio combining dance, visual arts and music, as well as a saxophone quartet dedicated to performance.
