Giulia Lorusso's creation, Weightless, calls forcontemplative listening, plays on the perception of the consistency and impalpability of sound. It is a music that branches out, multiplies and spreads like a gaseous fluid in the involucre space enveloping the audience.
Like a speech in progress, Francesca Verunelli's Unfolding casts a different light on the music at each moment, while preserving its coherence. The electronics is like a fifth instrument. It is the unhooking of the speech, the deployment of the quartet.
In each movement of Leading Lines, there is a guiding line around which the composition evolves. The sound material becomes denser through the use of particular layering techniques. The sound is inspired by the technique of spectralism, and then it finds its ideal place in a saturated acoustic environment.

Tana Quartet
instrumental quartet
Since 2010, the TANA Quartet has enjoyed combining their scores in all tenses. Driven by the desire to create, TANA combines aesthetics, decompartmentalizes, confronts and compares them, reinventing the link between past and future, forging its own tradition. The quartet takes on several commissions per season, performs in the most famous concert halls - from the Philharmonie de Paris to the Palau de la Musica in Barcelona, from the Villa Medici in Rome to the Konzerthaus in Vienna - and has won numerous prestigious prizes: 1st Laureate HSBC of the Académie du Festival d'Aix-en- Provence, Coup de Coeur de l'Académie Charles Cros, Prix Fuga, les Octaves de la musique. The TANA Quartet works in close collaboration with composers from all over the world, having premiered over 250 works. Its discography includes twelve albums, notably the complete string quartets of Philip Glass (CHOC Classica 2018) and most recently Bleu Ébène, featuring the complete string quartets of composer David Achenberg.
The TANA Quartet has also turned its attention to musical research, becoming the privileged partner of several national creation centers such as Ircam, GMEM, Grame... In 2015, the quartet created its own electroacoustic instruments, the TanaInstruments. With composer Juan Gonzalo Arroyo, TANA signed the first piece for TanaInstruments, Smaqra, a composition that led to others on the VOLTS CD, marking "a milestone in the history of the quartet genre" (classiquenews.com).
A regular guest at institutions such as the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, the University of California at Berkeley, and the Shanghai Conservatory, in 2018 TANA is creating a summer academy, ARCo (in partnership with the Mozarteum Salzburg, the GMEM, the ensembles Multilatérale and Les Métaboles), focused on musical creation and aimed at the youngest talents. - tanaquartet.fr
Giulia Lorusso
composer
Giulia Lorusso uses sound as a link between the individual and his environment. She sees the musical event as a field of relationships between sounds. Through her works, she imagines new listening contexts, aiming to explore the relationships within the triptych composer - performer - audience. Playing with the porosity of these boundaries, her recent works explore the relationship between sound matter and the perception of space.
Giulia Lorusso studied composition first with Alessandro Solbiati at the Milan Conservatory, then at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris with Frédéric Durieux. In 2015, she completed the Cursus de composition et d'informatique musicale at Ircam. Her music is regularly programmed in France and abroad by institutions such as Ircam, GMEM Marseille, ZKM Karlsruhe...
Francesca Verunelli
composer
Francesca Verunelli studied composition with Rosario Mirigliano and piano with Stefano Fiuzzi at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence, graduating summa cum laude. She completed her studies at the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome, with Azio Corghi. In 2008, she joined Ircam's Cursus de Composition et d'Informatique Musicale, receiving a Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale the same year. A research composer at Ircam for 2011-2012, she was commissioned by the Institute to write Unfolding, a string quartet with electronics created by the Arditti Quartet in March 2012, at the Musiques en scène de Lyon Biennial and performed again at Ircam's ManiFeste 2012 festival.
She has received commissions from major music institutions and festivals, including Ircam, the NeueVocalsolisten Stuttgart, the Venice Biennale, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the GMEM... She has been composer-in-residence at GMEM Marseille, Casa de Velasquez and Villa Médicis (French Academy in Rome). In summer 2021, she will be composer-in-residence at the Festival des Quators du Luberon, where the Zaïde Quartet will premiere her piece Unfolding II. In May 2022, she was awarded the 41st "Premio Abbiati della critica". - www.francescaverunelli.com
Ivan Fedele
composer
A student at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Milan, Ivan Fedele studied piano with Bruno Canino and then composition with Franco Donatoni, among others. His father, a mathematician, also passed on to him his taste for this discipline, some aspects of which he sought to use in his own work on spatialization or granular synthesis. He has received numerous commissions from the most prestigious ensembles, orchestras and operas, including Ircam, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Orchestre de Radio-France and the Orchestre National de Lyon. He is regularly programmed in the major European festivals, and was featured in a portrait at the Festival Musica in Strasbourg in 1995. He was composer in residence at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Strasbourg in 1995. He is particularly fond of the concerto genre, having already written several for piano, violin, cello, viola, clarinet, and flute. He has also written operas, symphonic music or for ensemble, pieces with electronics, music for image, radio pieces, vocal pieces.
Benjamin Lévy
computer music director
Today, Benjamin Lévy is a freelance computer music producer with a dual background in music and computer science applied to music.
Since 2008, he has been collaborating both scientifically and technically as well as artistically with several Ircam teams, in particular around the OMax improvisation software.
As an R&D engineer and developer, he also works for audio and creative technology companies. As a computer musician, his work is integrated into various artistic projects in contemporary music, jazz, free improvisation, theater, dance. Charles Bascou
composer, computer music designer and researcher
From the fruit of his various collaborations, his interests are articulated around two axes: gestuality and random systems. This work on gesture exists through realizations and lutheries, with ErikM, Natacha Muslera, Pascale Criton, but also in the form of academic research.
Charles Bascou is particularly interested in random and mathematical systems for music with Sébastien Roux, Carol Robinson and Alessandro Bosetti. Other collaborations have marked his career: Tristan Murail, Reinhold Friedl and Francesca Verunelli. He leads a more personal work, in the field of experimental and electroacoustic music. - charlesbascou.com
