As an echo to the exhibition "Folklore", the Mucem and the GMEM propose two streaming events exploring the relationship between "Tradition and Creation".
By binary ease and ignorance, traditional music is too quickly rejected outside of today's musical creation. The institutions, the broadcasters and the public often assimilate them to a dead and obsolete language, frozen in the repetition of the Same. Everything happens as if their original link with the richness of popular and regional cultures, was paid in return to their assignment, by a forced devitalization.
It is not to know the creative energy that Erwan Keravec, Miquèu Montanaro or Jean-François Vrod insufflate. Their reappropriation of forms - the tale, the vigil, the bagadoù... - and the reconsideration of the lutheries - bagpipes, biniou, bombard, trélombarde, galoubet tambourin... - participate in a reconsideration of the historical link and of the future.
In complicit affinity with the cultural project of the MUCEM, these events invite to discover at the crossroads of performance, orality and research, the persistent vitality of traditional music.

RADIO CONCERT
Tradition / Creation " Here and after "
Violin making, music writing, improvisation and interpretation are all points of encounter between tradition and creation. Drawing on their practices and in a performative form, musicians, musicologists and composers question the historical relationship between the ancient and the modern, between heritage and novelty. A way to approach the notions of authenticity and identity through the dynamics of experience.
These exchanges will be punctuated by musical excerpts from "Ici et d'après". For several years, Miquèu Montanaro - a galoubet tambourine player - and Christian Sebille - an electroacoustic composer and performer - have shared the specificities of their instruments and their compositional methods, thus developing a repertoire and a reflection on the issues raised by the relationship between creation and tradition. Athénor, National Center of Musical Creation, invested for a long time by this question, proposed to add to the duo Jean-François Vrod, violinist and storyteller. From these encounters, a body of experiences and exchanges is born, which leads the trio to enrich their compositions with new sounds. An endless trail of before, elsewhere, here and after ...

Christian Sebille is a composer and artistic director of the GMEM in Marseille. He works on the realization of sound installations in situ, in particular within the framework of a series entitled Miniatures. The place of sound capture is linked to the place of its diffusion in a ratio of space compression (reduction of the diffusion space in relation to the capture space) and temporal reduction (ratio of capture time / diffusion time). Moreover, he works on the concrete sound and on the capacity of the material to be in itself its own diffuser (the instrumental object). The radiation of the material and the movement of the object (sound) play with each other.
Jean-François Vrod
violinist
A violinist with a background in traditional French music, he began playing the violin as a teenager while attending the Parisian Folk-Club Le Bourdon. He then undertook his first collections on the music of oral tradition in the mountains of the Massif Central (Cantal, Haute-Loire). Concerned in his work as much by the valorization of popular cultures as by a contemporary extension of the gesture of the traditional musician, his road is marked out by many projects of creation. Thus, he collaborates or crosses on the occasion of various projects: Dominique Pifarely, Alain Savouret, Abbi Patrix, Fantazio, Denis Charolles and the Campagnie des musiques à ouïr, Frédéric Le Junter, Frédéric Aurier and Sylvain Lemêtre within the trio La Soustraction des Fleurs, the quartet Bela, the Gmea of Albi for two state orders, Jean Pierre Drouet, Jean Luc Faffchamps (Ensemble Ictus)... His last two recordings with the trio La Soustraction des Fleurs are published by Radio France on the Signature label, the third on Umlaut records.
