By founding the GMEM in 1972, Georges Boeuf paved the way for contemporary music in Marseille. Nothing would have been possible without his founding gesture, and everything would have been considerably more difficult without his invaluable help and friendship. But he also remains - for many of us - Monsieur Boeuf, our composition teacher at the Marseille Conservatoire, in the class opened by Pierre Barbizet. We, that is, three of his former students among countless talented musicians, three composers to whom he opened the doors of extraordinary freedom: Régis Campo, Yann Robin and myself.
The three of us have concocted some surprises to wish our master a happy birthday. To tell him once again what we owe him, but above all how much his influence and his music have conditioned our freedom as artists. Raoul Lay, Ensemble Télémaque

Telemaque
ensemble
Since its formation in Marseilles in 1994, the Télémaque ensemble has devoted itself to the creation and dissemination of works of our time. In the 2000s, under the impetus of Raoul Lay, the Télémaque musical company developed original ways of blending with other performing arts: Olivier Py, Bernard Kudlak (cirque Plume), Catherine Marnas, Nathalie Pernette and Frédéric Flamand are among Télémaque's artistic partners, working with music by Mauricio Kagel, Steve Reich and Raoul Lay himself.
The ensemble also performs in concert on the most innovative musical stages in France and abroad: Festival d'Ile de France, Festival Présences at Radio-France, Cité de la Musique in Paris, Venice Biennale... In addition to creation, Télémaque has set itself the mission of awakening curiosity, of giving all contemporary musical aesthetics a chance to be heard, everywhere and by everyone. To this end, Télémaque has focused on young audiences, whether as spectators ("Nokto", "La mort Marraine", "La revue de Cuisine") or as singers ("La jeune fille aux mains d'argent") and/or percussionists ("Nous d'ici-bas").
In 2011, Télémaque became the leading ensemble in the ECO (European Contemporary Orchestra) project, an acoustic and electric phalanx of 33 musicians dedicated to creative work. In 2013, Télémaque joined the Pôle Instrumental Contemporain (PIC) and embarked on a regional project that earned it the "Atelier de Fabrique Artistique" label, awarded in 2016 by the French Ministry of Culture.
Over the past ten years, Télémaque has performed in 15 countries. Since 2016, the structure has also organized a special event entitled "Grandes Musiques pour Petites Oreilles" (Great Music for Little Ears), which takes the form of a winter quarter and an autumn festival, in partnership with some fifteen regional operators (Les théâtres - Bernardines et GTP, Opéra de Toulon, Théâtre Massalia, GMEM, Biennale Internationale des Arts du Cirque, Théâtre du Centaure, Cinéma l'Alhambra...).
Georges Boeuf
composer
A French composer born in Marseille in 1937, Georges Boeuf studied harmony and counterpoint at the Marseille Conservatory. Awarded the Sacem prize in 1966, he co-founded the Groupe de musique expérimentale de Marseille (Gmem) in 1969. After teaching for several years at the Marseilles Conservatoire, Georges Boeuf set up a composition class there in 1988. He also founded the Télémaque ensemble, whose repertoire is entirely devoted to contemporary music. Georges Boeuf has distinguished himself in a wide variety of musical genres, from electroacoustic music to instrumental music, as well as mixed and vocal works for stage and film. His catalog includes some one hundred pieces.
RoulLay
conductor
Conductor and artistic director of the Télémaque ensemble, Raoul Lay received the Prix Paul-Louis Weiller from the Académie Française in 1998. Since then, he has conducted the Asko Ensemble (Netherlands), the Savaria Orchestra (Hungary), the Modern Ensemble (Germany), the Capricorn Ensemble (England), the Tito Schipa Philharmonic Orchestra of Lecce (Italy), the National Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (Malta), and the orchestras of the operas of Bordeaux, Toulon, Avignon, Marseille... Since 2001, he has written chamber operas with Olivier Py, Anne-Laure Liégeois, Cirque Plume, Catherine Marnas... In 2011, he invented the ECO (European Contemporary Orchestra), 33 musicians in permanent creation. In 2013, he opened the PIC (Pôle Instrumental Contemporain), Atelier de Fabrique Artistique in Marseille. A "rigorous conductor focused on composition" (Olivier Dahan, Libération), a creator who "dynamites the good manners of contemporary music" (Gilles Rof, Télérama), Raoul Lay defines himself as a ferryman of sounds, an artist committed to serving music, composers and audiences.
YannRobin
artistic and musical director
Yann Robin joins the jazz class at the CNR de Marseille and Georges Bœuf's composition class. He receives a grant from the Meyer Foundation, a prize from the Académie des Beaux-Arts and from the Fondation Salabert. In 2011, Sacem awarded him the Grand Prix de la Musique Symphonique.
In 2012, he received a co-commission from Ircam and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France for a piece for large orchestra and electronics, Inferno based on the cartography of Dante's "Inferno".
In 2013, he wrote Monumenta, a piece for large orchestra that was performed as part of the Musica Festival in Strasbourg.
In 2014, he continues his work with the orchestra for a new piece co-commissioned by the Seattle Symphony and the Orchestre National de Lille, with whom he is in residence.
Régis Campo
composer
Born in Marseille in 1968, Régis Campo studied composition with Georges Boeuf and Jacques Charpentier. His style, deliberately playful and energetic, departs from the major aesthetic trends of the 20th century, emphasizing melodic invention and vital tempi. He is composer-in-residence for the 2004-2005 season with the Orchestre de Pau, the Parvis de Tarbes and the Tarbes Conservatoire. His work has won numerous awards, including the Prix Gaudeamus (1996), the Prix Spécial Jeunes Compositeurs (1996), the Prix du Concours Dutilleux (1996), and the Prix Hervé Dugardin and Pierre Cardin (1999). He opens 2009 with the premiere of his opera "Les Quatre jumelles". The TM+ ensemble and Arcal take this work from town to town. His second opera "Quai-Ouest" premiered in 2014 at the Opéra National du Rhin during the Musicapuis Festival.
