The "TechniCité" are independent workshops proposed by François Wong, teacher at the Cité de la Musique in Marseille. They allow to approach a technical concept in one day, under a practical angle. This workshop is the first of a series of 3, which will be accessible to the students of the platform, until May 2021.
TechniCité #1
As an alternative or as a complement to stereophonic writing, multichannel writing allows to fix sounds on a complex loudspeaker space.
Starting from a voluntarily simple configuration of 4 loudspeakers (but obviously extensible), the workshop approaches the various techniques of configuration and writing in the Reaper software.
We will mainly deal with:
- the preparation of a multipoint session
- the different ways of approaching the writing and spacing of sounds
- the specific use of plugins in multichannel configuration
For :
Composition students (electroacoustic pieces, installations, application music...) and anyone interested in this principle (partner structures of the Platform).
Prerequisite:
A basic knowledge of Reaper software.
Materials:
A computer with Reaper installed and possibly an external digital audio interface to set up a session during the workshop.
Workshop addressed exclusively to students of the Platform's partner structures
François Wong
Improviser, he collaborates with many musicians during short or regular meetings and co-founded Grand8 in 2016, long-term construction of a large improvised music ensemble without conducting. In small groups, he develops solos, currently plays with Heard Of Bears (+ Vincent Lajü, Ed Williams), H-ordes (+ Pôm Bouvier, Catherine Jauniaux). Improvisation is also a field of performance with dance, in the form of sessions or meetings with the company EMIR-Barre Phillips, the dancers of the company Julyen Hamilton, the CEPI. Researcher and composer, he has been experimenting with the electrification of the saxophone for 15 years, augmenting it - depending on the situation - with physical machines, software, multipoint diffusion or guitar/bass amplifiers. He uses this device and performs regularly on stage with his solo Agartha (piece for saxophone and electronics, GMEM production), e-SaxBow (+ Florent Colautti, e-String), the duo !BONG! (+ Olivier Bost, ARFI), transdisciplinary projects (video, theater). He also works in the field of electro-acoustic music and writes acousmatic pieces. A close collaboration with Isabelle Courroy (kaval flutes) allows him to compose mixed and real time pieces for kaval and electronics since 2018 (latest project Un Eloge de l'Oblique, commissioned by the Chaillol 2020 festival). He has been doing writing and recording residencies at La Muse en Circuit (CNCM-Alfortville), GRIM (Marseille), GMEA (CNCM -Albi) and GMEM (CNCM-Marseille)
