International competition for radio and sound creation

From November 13 to 16 at Marseille's Friche Belle de Mai, enter the teeming world of radio and sound expression!

Wednesday November 13, from 1:30 pm, come and take part in the Rencontres des acteurs-ices de la création sonore et radiophonique...

3 round-table programs in public, at the GMEM Module, and live on Radio Grenouille 88.8 FM, DAB+ & webradio, to discuss 3 themes with our guests:
- The effervescence of the young electroacoustic scene,
- What to do with sound archives?
- And the burning issue of financing radio creation.

1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Electroacoustic music, eternal youth?

From its foundation by Pierre Schaeffer to its cross-fertilization with all forms of sound expression, injecting issues of spatialization into the field of visual arts and regenerating the aesthetic purpose of cold, commercial sound design, the practice of electroacoustic composition bears witness to an unexpected vitality at the start of the 21st century.
For what could have been considered an intellectual game of the avant-garde hurluberlue, this sound language - Musique Concrète diffractée on loudspeakers, written with microphones and recorders - is finding, thanks to digital technologies, the home studio and a desire for musical writing outside the score, a still solid distribution and appropriation by many young artists, composers and performers. From historic festivals to the creation of "Do It Yourself" acousmoniums, let's take a look at the diversity of this scene and its current state. We'll look at the question of teaching and transmission, with examples of mediation through and with acousmatics. We'll also look at the possible hybridization between electroacoustics and sound documentaries, a relationship that has long been complex, but whose reciprocal influences we'll try to track down. And beyond an elitist aesthetic language, isn't it a way of life, a philosophy of listening?

Archives and creation: support for sound, support for meaning

Beyond the patrimonialization of sound archives, let's take a look at a few typologies and possible solutions for conservation that would extend the creative gesture through transmission.
With boxes of magnetic tapes piling up, analog K7s, DATs or Minidisks straddling digital hard disks, our sound archives are trying to escape!
The independent sound, music and radio creation scenes are reaching an honorable age and looking back on their history.
From year to year, from hand to hand, the media have evolved, but have been put aside for another, for the next ear, for a potential rebroadcast or re-creation.
What conservation solutions?
For what purpose should this transmission take place?
Which institutions are capable of responding to this demand?
Making our sound archives heard: an exciting project to tell the story of these materials and keep the creative process going!

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Sound creation production: an impossible equation?

With one foot in artistic creation and the other in the media, radio creation, whose contours remain many and shifting, has yet to find an economic model to match. Seen from the media angle, its production could be the prerogative of the public service, or the responsibility of the local network of community radio stations.
On the artistic side, institutions are struggling to find a framework for supporting these expressions of sound, whose history and culture are little recognized, despite the fact that they have been heard by millions of ears for decades. With neither the music nor the cinema economy to draw on, even though their narrative forms can be similar, particularly since the podcast boom and the revival of serial writing, the question of how to produce this rich area of expression remains unresolved.
In France, the essential (but rare) grants or residencies and the recent experimentation of the Ministry of Culture have given rise to a prolific scene, but with a systemic lack of deployment, support and production structures.
Is there a history of radio creation outside Radio France?
What lessons can be drawn from the recent experience of the podcast sector?
What are the examples and experiences of our French-speaking and European neighbors?
