"Think and then sing the first four notes that come to mind and let me record them.
Don't tune in, let your memory or intuition be the tuning fork.
Don't try again. Just four notes.
Then stop."

Asking the musicians of the Dedalus ensemble about their relationship to intervals, Alessandro Bosetti asks each of them to sing four notes. Based on the resulting harmonic charter, he composed a Histoire sentimentale des intervalles for seven instruments, with microtonal writing and meticulous tuning, exploring a geography of musical pitches. Through free or synesthetic associations, the piece is built around the relationship between subjectivity, memory and harmony. It traces the emotional stratifications, memories and idiosyncrasies that make up the collective ear and musical sensibility of an ensemble.

A concert piece that brings into play ra-tional and irrational harmonic relationships, it plunges us into a dreamlike, subjective universe that allows listeners time to familiarize themselves with singular sonorities and to linger on the threshold between consonance and dissonance. The idea that harmony and intervals are the component of music closest to emotions, memories and unconscious associations is confirmed.
