As part of the exhibition Même les soleils sont ivresat the Collection Lambert in Avignon.
The Collection Yvon Lambert in Avignon and the GMEM - Centre national de création musicale in Marseille are giving sound artist Julie Rousse carte blanche to inhabit the Cour Montfaucon, at the heart of the Collection, with a sound installation on the theme of wind. This original work will be created in-situ at the end of 2024 and exhibited for the duration of the exhibition Même les soleils sont Ivres.
AURAL is a sound installation by Julie Rousse on the theme of the wind, which is featured in this exhibition at the Collection Lambert. The sound artist proposes a 360° voyage along the Rose des Vents, using her vast phonographic library gleaned from around the world: the result is a multiphonic installation bathed in sonorities, defying the boundaries of consciousness and space.
The wind is invisible, but it exists through its influence on space and living things: it helps shape landforms, shapes plants, oxygenates oceans, pushes waves and enables life to reproduce. It is the intangible fruit of solar winds born of the Earth's rotating dance before its star.
Conceived as part of the Avignon Terre de culture 2025 / Curiosité(s) celebrations, the exhibition Même les Soleils sont Ivres borrows its title from a phrase by Albert Camus in La Postérité du soleil, a book produced in the Vaucluse region with Swiss photographer Henriette Grindat, and beautifully prefaced by his friend, the poet René Char.
The range of contemporary and classical works on display in the rooms of the Hôtel de Montfaucon - installations, videos, photographs, sculptures and paintings - tell the story, through a multitude of sensory experiences, of the sensitive relationship between human beings and the land they inhabit, impregnated by the peculiarities of a climate irrevocably affected by the wind.
