- Description of the association
The GMEM was founded in 1972 by a collective of composers. It was designated a National Center for Musical Creation in 1997. Christian Sebille, founder of the Centre Césaré, was appointed Director in 2011. He has breathed new life into the center with an artistic project open to all styles of contemporary musical creation.
In 2016, the organization merged with GRIM (Groupe de Recherche et d’Improvisation Musicales) and moved to the Friche de la Belle de Mai. In 2017, Le Module was built.
In 2021, broadcasting underwent a major overhaul, bringing together all musical styles around:
– A Season – Les Modulations – organized around a monthly event at Le Module or in the spaces of La Friche, every third Tuesday of the month;
– events organized with our partners (La Criée, Le Zef, etc.);
– the PROPAGATIONS Festival in May, dedicated to the many forms of sound and musical creation (sound installations, musical banquets, outdoor performances, sound walks, musical strolls, etc.)
