Description of the Organization
The GMEM—National Center for Musical Creation—was founded in 1972 by a collective of composers. It was designated a National Center for Musical Creation in 1997. Its missions are defined in a set of specifications issued by the Ministry of Culture and Communication and focus on the production of musical works, their dissemination, and the transmission of musical knowledge.
Christian Sebille, founder of the Centre Césaré in Reims, was appointed Director in 2011. He is inspiring a new artistic project open to all the aesthetics of contemporary musical creation.
Based at the Friche Belle de Mai since 2017, the GMEM supports artistic teams—particularly during residencies—produces performances in the field of musical creation, conducts numerous educational, instructional, training, and research initiatives, and shares all these activities through regular public presentations (festivals, concerts, installations, meetings, residency showcases, etc.) that punctuate the GMEM’s season.
Job Description
A small, close-knit team, the Production department is at the heart of the overall artistic vision championed by the GMEM. As part of a dynamic organization, the intern will work within the production division under the guidance of the production manager and the production director.
You will be involved in various aspects of GMEM’s productions, from preparation and organization to the implementation of the resources needed to carry them out.
Each artistic proposal received at the GMEM - residency, production, dissemination - is unique and requires an adapted set-up. Working alongside the production manager, you'll discover how to take great care of the site and ensure that artistic teams are welcomed and supported in the best possible way. You'll also learn about the challenges involved in ensuring the smooth flow of information to technical teams, artists, the communications department and the administration department, all of which must be deployed by the production team.
The proposed internship period will allow you to play an active role in the 2027 edition of the Propagations festival, which will take place during the first half of May—from the initial planning stages, through the festival itself, to the post-festival activities. At the same time, you’ll experience the day-to-day operations of a music production organization, including hosting residencies, organizing and staging performances (partner events, Modulations, Extramod, etc.), and educational workshops, among other events and ongoing collaborations, which you’ll help facilitate.
