On a human scale, the world can appear as an inextricable chaos in which the individual tries to survive by adding his solitude to the incomprehension of his existence. In his quest for meaning and identity, the human being tries to communicate with his fellow human beings, with nature, with the universe, with those who came before him and those who are not yet born, to finally understand his true nature and find meaning. He does this by all the means at his disposal, by his voice, his body, his thought, or through the tools and instruments he keeps creating. He does it humbly, passionately, desperately, gently, obstinately, violently, tenderly, cruelly, impatiently, coldly, poetically, ritually, in total fear or admirable abnegation. In his solitude, painfully wrapped in that of others.
It is about this quest, this need for meaning, this desire to finally reach inner peace, a chimerical wish pursued by Men since the dawn of time, that Reaching Out comes to speak to us. The work is composed of four musical pieces of unequal length, each of which, in its own way, approaches the subject from a unique and singular angle.

Ondřej Adámek
Composer
Born in Prague, Ondřej Adámek received his composition degree from the Prague Academy of Music and his Composition Prize in 2006 from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he also studied orchestration, electroacoustics, conducting and Indian music. Fascinated by other cultures, he assimilates all the aesthetics he comes across. As a teenager, he played the organ, tablas and flutes, then discovered Noh theater, Bunraku and Zen Buddhist rituals. He immersed himself in flamenco in Spain and developed specific playing techniques, made instruments, and was initiated into Hinduism in India, as well as in Bali where he studied gamelan. His works reveal all these influences, marking them with a specific sound color which, combined with a powerful rhythmic and a solid formal architecture, creates a personal music not exempt from dramaturgy. He has also been active as a conductor since 2013, and in 2018 is conducting his opera Alles klappt at the Munich Biennale and his opera Seven Stones at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. He conducts Ensemble Moderne, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Kammerensemble Neue Musik, Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, Chorwerk Ruhr, Accentus, Oslo Sinfonietta, Ensemble 2E2M, Ensemble Prague Modern, Ensemble Ilinx, as well as the Ensemble de musicien-ne-s d'Orchestre national de Lille. In 2014-2015, Adámek was a resident at the Villa Medici in Rome, where he wrote his opera Seven Stones, premiered in 2018 at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, and completed the making of Airmachine. The Concerto for Violin and Orchestra he wrote for Isabelle Faust was premiered by the Bavarian Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra and Peter Rundel in December 2017. Ondřej Adámek received numerous commissions for orchestral, choral, and ensemble works, sometimes with electronics. Among his commissioners are as many prestigious ensembles as European festivals of contemporary music such as London Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Klangforum Vienna, Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, Diotima Quartet, or the German festivals of Donaueschingen and Witten. Adamek forms N.E.S.E.V.E.N., an original vocal ensemble dedicated to creations.
N.E.S.E.V.E.N.
Musical ensemble
The idea of founding the young vocal ensemble N.E.S.E.V.E.N. (Never Ending Searching for Exact Vocal Expression and Nuances) emerged during the development of Seven Stones, an opera by Ondřej Adámek, which was staged by Éric Oberdorff for the 2018 Aix-en-Provence Festival. N.E.S.E.V.E.N. focuses in its artistic work on the search for the natural aspects of the voice and the authenticity and precision of vocal expression. In 2018, the ensemble was invited to the Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, among others, and in 2020 to Paris (Festival Présence/Radio France), in 2022 to Marseille (Festival Propagations) and to Venice (Biennale Musica).
