Journey is not the story of a real journey, but rather a meditation on movement, as it happens when you leave home: you float and glide and let yourself be moved by the windows of trains.
On stage, a narrator (Tanguy Viel) pursues this meditation which is also an intuition: that there exist, in the shadow of movement, moments of stasis and rapture, crazy intensities that we dream, seek and sometimes encounter.
It is then that the narrative is interrupted to become a poem and song, carried by the voice of Elise Chauvin: there, in the heart of the great cities, from Shanghai to London or Tokyo, it is a contemplative fulgurance that the song tries to circumscribe, before the narrator resumes his infinite walk. The story and the poems are intertwined, as if they were slipped and knotted together by Philippe Hurel's music, composed here for the Trio K/D/M and Alain Billard.
Excerpts from the reciter's booklet:
"And now I feel carried by the circular movement of the wheels on the rails, because of this sensation that begins to develop there, in the train cars, at all these speeds that the long lines manufacture where each flower seems to stretch infinitely on its embankment, where the electric wires undulate more or less like waves on the sea and where all the tension, all the static electricity that accumulates when one stays in place, suddenly it seems to dissolve in, I don't know, the railway feeling. And now my nerves themselves, my nerves that used to be so fragile and so quick to curl up on themselves like worms under the earth, now they too take the shape of the landscape and stretch out in a straight line at the speed of the train, that everything in me harmonizes when the train leaves the stations and accelerates gently out of the cities, that then as the habitat disperses and the trees gradually gain on the buildings and houses, both the landscape and the nerves, the speed and the thought, everything seems to put itself in tune with the same joyful and endless parade...
