These workshops are part of the GMEM's "sensitization and initiation" program, designed to enable school audiences to explore the vast field of creative music (contemporary, experimental, electroacoustic or electronic).
The program is divided into several phases over the course of a school year, with the aim of providing students with the keys to listening and understanding, as well as awakening their artistic sensibilities. It can be adapted to the needs of each school and the approach of its teaching teams. Awareness-raising workshops, the first milestone in this pathway, enable school audiences to attend a session to discover the tools and languages of today's musical creation. They are divided into two parts:
A theoretical section based on musical examples from the repertoire (electroacoustic, experimental and contemporary), to familiarize you with the main concepts shared by many of today's composers and musicians.
A practical part based on the discovery of different modes of live playing linked to musical creation. Students are encouraged to experimentally manipulate sound production devices and organize them within a musical framework.
Laurent Sellier
sound artist, composer
Born in 1972. Trained in electroacoustic music and sound techniques, Laurent Sellier began composing in 1996, exploring the text/music relationship that characterizes his approach to writing. His music is thus concerned with narrative: headphone concerts(l'Histoire de Clara et Danbé ), dreamy listening under the stars(Superball, an acousmatic outdoor piece), sound trails, participatory projects(Audioguide(s) with Ars Nova Ensemble, Appertoire with Césaré - CNCM), songs (LP Rien... presque rien), lived moments(Soleil Rare, a piece for fixed sounds and images), forgotten figures(Géo Charles, a sound installation for the museum of the same name in Echirolles), shared stories (Le centenaire de l'école Lesdiguières, book-CD), given words(4'01, portraits of composers), compiled stories(Les moyens du bord, beach music)... Laurent Sellier also composes for the theater(Le sang des amis by Jean-Marie Piemme, Le Jeu des 1000€ by Bertrand Bossard...) and multi-disciplinary shows (cinema, contemporary dance and visual arts). From 2000 to 2007, he was head of teaching and musical assistant at La Muse en Circuit, Centre National de Création Musicale in Ile-de-France, and is currently head of teaching at the CFA des Métiers du Spectacle in Marseille.
