Five Songs (Kafka's sirens)

The brackets in the title of the piece allude to - but are not a literal reference to - Frank Kafka's story "The Silence of the Sirens".
In reality, Kafka's story is not so much about telling an alternative history (which would say that sirens don't sing) as it is about suggesting a paradox, insinuating a doubt, a perspective.

Rather, the title alludes to a possible paradoxical perspective. It is a form articulated in five instrumental "songs".
What remains of singing, of vocal conduct and expression, when no one sings?

Formally, I'm continuing my work on articulation "in moments" that are not "movements": an elliptical yet unitary form that brings memory and expectations into play to create permanence through discontinuity.
