Meeting between music, repetitive and minimalist, and machinimas (films made with video games), pre-edited video game sequences, real-time video recordings, music, interactive performance and visual and sound installation. Each sound, each rhythm is represented visually by the use of a game engine, and allows the audience to physically experience the notions of splitting, distance, wandering, otherness, and being to things. An immersive and contemplative experience in a hybrid form of a virtual space to inhabit in real space.
Cross by was born from the meeting of Isabelle Arvers and Nathalie Négro during an artistic residency in the Nord Pas de Calais. From the mutual discovery of their universes, crossings quickly took place, between piano and video game. The work of Isabelle Arvers, a specialist in machinimas, is interested in their spatialization and hybridization with other artistic forms. For several years, the work of Nathalie Négro - pianist - has been crossed by the exploration of the repetition of musical motifs. In the continuation of this research, she returns to a more narrow form around the emblematic piece of Steve Reich Piano phase which is the center of gravity of Cross by.

Nathalie Negro
pianist
An accomplished pianist with a repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary and improvised music, Nathalie Négro likes to break down barriers and shake up conventions. She is solicited for numerous creations and is invited to various festivals in France and abroad. In 2003 she created PIANOANDCO, a production structure that allows her artistic encounters to be given real space for expression. Driven by a strong creative spirit, she imagines and directs transdisciplinary projects that she always carries out in a strong relationship with other artists. Nathalie Négro attaches particular importance to transmission, she has developed other methods of intervention, taking into account the diversity of the public and focusing on collective actions and participative projects from a more civic perspective.
Isabelle Arver
exhibition curator
Isabelle Arvers is an exhibition curator and a specialist in machinimas (films made from video game engines) in France and abroad. She started to design film programs for festivals and museums in 2005. In 2009, she started to animate machinima workshops for teenagers, then for young audiences and finally for art students. After having led more than a hundred workshops in France and abroad, she conceived her first machinima in 2012, and has since directed numerous videos based on game engines. In 2016, she conceived "Heroic makers vs Heroic Land" a machinima doc in the jungle of Calais, then created different abstract machinima hijacking the use of a game engine to create visual glitches to be physically inhabited in the field of live performance.
