Canciónes celebrates the union of popular culture and art music, with Spanish composers who have left their mark on their time.
With this thread, we weave an itinerary through the centuries, from the Recercadas of Diego Ortiz and the Sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti to the popular songs of Federico García Lorca, Manuel de Falla and Maurice Ohana.
In a nod to the Festival International de Quatuor à Cordes du Luberon, we have chosen to accompany our soprano soloist Amel Brahim Djelloul with a most unusual quartet, made up of string instruments that are not rubbed but plucked and struck, with mandolin, guitar, harp and cymbalum underlining the resolutely Iberian ardor of our program.
Echoing the Russian theme of this 41st edition of the Festival, we propose a few short, emblematic pieces by Igor Stravinsky, a symbol of modernity, which will prelude a new work by young composer Aurélien Maestracci, co-commissioned by the Festival and Ensemble C Barré, inspired by poet Marina Tsvetaïeva's essay Mon Pouchkine .
