Based on her research in the lower Omo valley in Ethiopia, Anna Gaïotti undertook the writing of the musical creation A Kiss Without Lips in collaboration with Léo Dupleix and Sigolène Valax, members of the group vierge noir e
The approach of the dances and the musics is played for this creation in the middle of a work of poetic writing and in the prolongation of an ethnomusical search near the Hamar and Nyangatom tribes. A Kiss Without Lips(AKWL) seeks to expand the understanding of a gestural, sonic and spiritual dialect. AKWL attempts to appreciate its ordinariness as extraordinary, as a memory borrowed from domestic life, its enemy and monsters, its repeated and ritualized embodiments by the vulnerable body. AKWL reflects on the fracture of a local ecology devastated by a patriarchal culture, a univocal globalist economy and an irreversible climate crisis. This kiss is the space-time of a journey to the borders of Kenya and South Sudan where, today, lands and beings are divided, where waters and skins are divided, where the body is divided in its heart.
For this new creation, the trio vierge noir e manipulates material and immaterial archives to compose the soundtrack of A Kiss Without Lips. Through the experience of its hybrid music, acoustic and amplified, vierge noir e extends the sound memory of an environment and the transmission of a world. They compose with the text and through electronic and digital instruments (programming, analog and low-fi synthesizers) to animate the fiction that emerges from an own experience.

Sig Valax
sound artist
Sigolène Valax plays the Persephone, an analog synthesizer controlled by a ribbon, amplified on a guitar amp. These are granular masses, insolent spectral vibrations, hissing, muffled beats, levitating waves, and so many textures both terrestrial and very cosmic, that she reveals through her touch.
Léo Dupleix
sound artist
Léo Dupleix, when he doesn't play saturated grains or lines via maxmsp, manipulates a theater of things endowed with vibratory and tactile mechanisms, sensors on modest objects: plastic cups, cans, springs, marbles, tambourine... that he amplifies, or not, via nomadic vibratory speakers. He plays and breaks with agility the iteration of the gesture or the persistence of an unspecified sound, by the means of temporal constraints, of partitions, or deviating and bringing out of frontality the presences: his physical presence, that of his game, that of the object. The low-tech and the acoustics meet with conscience, with the relevance of the ordinary.

vierge noir e is a musical chimera, a body with 3 noisy heads, which knot, untie and retie the coils of sound improvisation. The music argues and abysses as much in space as in time, the nothing or the surplus are performative choices; and on the playground, the 3 musicians do not unite in prey to the frontality of a concert, but wear out the spaces that one gives them. It is in the interaction of their 3 presences and their singular and proper corporalities that the sound arises and listens and breaks. Also black virgin works the relation or the friction between the discipline of the musical movement and the staging of the space-time sound gesture. Beyond a stake in the contingencies and their acuity of listening, vierge noir e visits their work of improvisation by the constraining systems, imagining protocols of duration and repetition, playing of the partitions of Taku Sugimoto, Manfred Werder and Karlheinz Stockhausen using the physical censure or the sound censure, or by speaking to themselves, dictating themselves or playing on the temporalities. So many tasks or almost writings which are digested tools to better explode the abandonments and regrets in live. In their reflection on improvisation and improvised music, silence appears as a necessity: it can be considered as a musical object, a subject, a tendency, a shared soul, a musical gesture: a resistance, an insistence, a rendezvous, a stop or a note... Since their formation in 2016, vierge noir e has explored various relationships and scenic formats, using the spaces that are within their reach (interiors and exteriors) and temporalities (concerts ranging from 5 minutes to 4 hours non-stop). Under the choreographic direction of Anna Gaïotti, they create the pieces BAL DES LAZE (2019), LES ANTÉCÉDENTES (2020) and A Kiss Without Lips (2021). - www.vierge-noir-e.org
